We’ve seen a lot of new developments and innovations here at Powerscourt Townhouse. It comes with the territory when you’re four centuries old! But nothing could have prepared us for having a new fragrance inspired by our very own Piano Nobile (first floor).

One of our newest tenants, Cloon Keen has created a truly unique fragrance inspired by a tour of their new surrounding by historian, Pat Liddy. “He took us on a wonderful tour of Powerscourt last year,” says Margaret Mangan, creative director of Cloon Keen. “He told us about the French Earl’s Grand Tour and we thought a perfume invented in the same era would be a perfect tribute to this beautiful building. It was really wonderful to research the period and feel a bit closer to our new home in Dublin.”

The scented story of Cloon Keen‘s Bel Étage (€130) conjures a sense of timeless place and enduring culture through its lyrical and poetic scent. Perfumer Meabh McCurtin, has successfully created an exquisite, long-lasting interpretation of this historic scent with its brilliant haze of citrus and herbs, woven with contrasting textures of earthy oakmoss absolute and ethereal musk’s. Without a doubt, Bel Étage maintains the nostalgia of the Eau de Cologne while creating an entirely novel sensation.

‘Bel Étage takes us on a journey to 18th century Georgian Dublin during the lats gasp of Palladianism; a Renaissance style of architecture based on the ancient, eternal symmetries of Roman temples which swept through Europe and America and became the viral sensation of the late 17th and 18th centuries,” explains Margaret.
