Powerscourt Centre launch their hidden Gem – The Grand Tour

This week  saw Powerscourt Townhouse Centre launch one of its hidden secrets ‘The Grand Tour’ at number 59 South William Street, one of the finest Georgian Townhouses in Dublin. Taking place in Lost Society one of the many stylish bars in Powerscourt.

Guests were greeted at the ancient doors by period actors dressed in eighteenth century garments, enchanting everyone who arrived to experience this historical gem in the heart of Dublin City Centre. Lost Society pulled out all the stops, with guests being treated to specially made ‘Wingfield Cocktails’ that had been created especially for the occasion by their resident mixologist.

“The Grand Tour” transports you back to the 18th century where you are guided around the beautiful rooms in which Viscount Powerscourt, the owner of this magnificent Georgian townhouse, entertained his guests. Lady Powerscourt would have prepared her make-up, put on her ball-gown and had her hair styled in her dressing room, which is aptly now beauty salon Pzazz. The servants would have polished the silver and laid the table in the dining room, which is now Lost Society and the cooks would have prepared the food in the kitchen, with the servants opening wine and beer from the cellars, now Pygmalion Bar. The beautiful ballroom, which was housed in The Gallery, would see the chandelier filled with lit candles and music playing, making Powerscourt Townhouse a wonderful place to entertain then, as it still is today.

Mary Larkin, Manager for Powerscourt Centre said ‘It is a wonderful experience to be guided through one of Dublin’s most beautiful & historic locations and to actually visualise the wonders of eighteenth century Ireland as you walk through the doors, makes it an exciting and educational journey. As a city centre location, I think it will attract tourism in a big way giving everyone accessibility to a stunning property that allows you to be enchanted”

Tours will take place at the South William St entrance on Thursdays and Saturdays at 11am and 2pm. Alternative days and group bookings can be organised by request.
