Powerscourt Centre supports  World Down Syndrome Day with a photography exhibition

Minister of Special Responsibility for Disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, is pleased to recognise Wednesday 21st March as World Down Syndrome Day. World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day which has been celebrated all over the world since 2006. It aims to create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down Syndrome as a positive development.

Finian said, “Today there are celebrations in over 100 countries all over the world with an annual conference in the UN in both New York and Geneva in conjunction with the Human Rights Council. I am so proud and happy to see that two people with Down Syndrome from Ireland spoke at the event in Geneva about their lives of being involved in their community”.

This evening Powerscourt Centre is delighted to support Down Syndrome Ireland and Frank Keane Volkswagen with their ‘Who Am I?’ Photography Exhibition which launches this evening at Powerscourt Townhouse Centre until April 30th. The Minister will launch the photographic exhibition this evening – “and that is ‘What I Bring to my Community’. I want today and indeed everyday to be a day when people with Down Syndrome can be loud and proud of how they enrich us their families, the community in which they live and society generally. I hope today will raise awareness of Down Syndrome among the general public of what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities”.

BEWLEY’S CAFÉ THEATRE @ Powerscourt in association with Sad Strippers is proud to present The Winner of the Fishamble New Writing Award in the Dublin Fringe Festival 2017 – ALL HONEY By Ciara Elizabeth Smyth, Directed by Jeda de Brí. Starring Ashleigh Dorrell, David Fennelly, Danielle Galligan, Keith Jordan and Ciara Elizabeth Smyth

Ru and Luke are throwing a house-warming. They intend to warm their house. However, their guests seem more interested in whispering in the box room than joining the festivities. Explosive characters and unfolding secrets mean Ru and Luke will have to clean up more than red wine stains and glitter. All Honey is a laugh-out-loud comedy of manners in contemporary Dublin.
Watch in horror and hilarity as friends become enemies. An hilariously bonkers and joyous start to the New Year.

From the company that brought you the hilarious TRIANGLES (2016) and the critically-acclaimed Pacemaker (Scene + Heard, 2017), Sad Strippers brings you their newest, laugh-out-loud comedy that will have your eyes streaming and your face aching.
