Roisin Ingle visits the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre and writes:

“The Powerscourt Townhouse Centre is such a pleasant place to be in the days running up to Christmas. The yuletide dial is turned up to 11 here and there are loads of great shops which make present shopping a joy. My favourite is Article for unusual, original gifts and lots of Irish designs. For children, we’ve picked up Bird Bingo and Cat Bingo here in the past – they tell me the bingo is gone unfortunately – but the gorgeous Savannah Animals and the Dog Domino will both go down really well with all small animal lovers.”

Article was opened in 2010 by John Adams and offers a beautifully edited range of contemporary tableware and decorative home accessories. Article stocks a personal collection of items for the home offering quirky yet functional products that have captured their imagination from sourcing trips or travelling.

Article is the ideal place for people to come to for a gift or to add to their home, or simply to call in, browse and be inspired.

Mark Grehan of The Garden will host a floral Christmas workshop at Ballynahinch Castle on Saturday 8th December. Whether you are a keen amateur florist or passionate about creating elegant festive arrangements for your own home, this festive floral workshop will inspire and delight you.
Much of the inspiration for each guest’s festive designs will be found from the surrounding environment, as Mark will lead you on a foraged walk in the morning exploring the estate grounds to forage and gather foliage, branches & wild bounty. Using holly, bracken, fir, and a selection of other yuletide blossoms, guests will return home with their very own piece of Connemara to hang in their home this Christmas.
As the fire roars in the beautifully tranquil Lettery Lodge, relax and get creative during the workshop starting at 11am with a break in the afternoon for festive afternoon tea served in the castle. Returning to Lettery for a further two-hour workshop in the afternoon, finishing at 4.30pm.
Mark Grehan established The Garden located in Powerscourt Townhouse six years ago, beginning his illustrious career as a landscape designer while training to become a florist. Mark says “I’m delighted to be back at Ballynahinch Castle this festive season as Connemara is my childhood home. The walled garden and spectacular surrounding landscape is the perfect inspirational backdrop for this workshop.”
The four-hour floral workshop is priced at €85pp including afternoon tea.  An overnight stay including the workshop and breakfast starts from €175 per person sharing.
