Anyone looking to spot the next Jack B Yeats, Robert Ballagh, Maser or Conor Harrington should plan a visit to the Powerscourt Town Centre this August 10th to 31st where 15 budding Irish artists will have their paintings on display for all to enjoy. The young artists were all finalists in Sightsavers Ireland’s Junior Painter Awards.
Disability campaigner and little person Sinead Burke (aka Minnie Melange) and Laureate na nÓg and illustrator PJ Lynch were two of this year’s judges who had the difficult task of selecting winning paintings such as the mysterious and colourful ‘The Horizan Horeyesan’ featuring cartoon-like characters within a jigsaw puzzle; while ‘Climate Controller Station Bringing Fairness to all Nations’ is an intriguing and intelligent painting about the important world issue of climate change.
The young artists responded creatively to this year’s theme, ‘Put Us In The Picture’. 12-year-old Patricia Poprawa from Glenswilly National School, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal was announced the overall winner for her inspiring and thought-provoking creation ‘Draw me in…I’m waiting.’
Students from hundreds of primary schools across the country took part in the Junior Painter Awards which aims to inspire children to express their artistic talent and develop an appreciation of the importance and value of their own sight while considering kids in developing countries that haven’t been as lucky as them.

Number 59 South William Street was the Townhouse of Richard and Amelia Wingfield, Lord and Lady Powerscourt, in the Eighteenth Century. Their main residence was Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow and Lord Powerscourt was a member of the House of Lords.
The Townhouse was used to host dinner parties and dances when Parliament was in session. Their guests were wowed by the beautiful stucco work on the ceilings and walls of the Staircase, the Dining Room and the Ballroom.
Lord Powerscourt did the Grand Tour and was inspired by French and Italian art so the Townhouse was filled with paintings and antiques. When Lord Powerscourt died the Townhouse was sold to the Irish Government who commissioned Francis Johnstone to add groups of buildings to be used as tax offices.
In the 1980s, almost 200 years after the Wingfields lived there, it was converted into Powerscourt Shopping Centre which was nominated for a European award. The Antique shops made the former tax offices their home and filled them with beautiful paintings, silver, china and jewellery. A case of history repeating itself! You might even discover a piece that once belonged to Lord and Lady Powerscourt!
The Image Boutique Awards were launched because Image wanted to acknowledge the exciting fashion, incredible service and beautiful spaces offered by stores across the country. It is very exciting to see independent Irish retailers celebrated in this way, and also by you, the boutique shoppers, in the support that was shown as more than 50,000 votes were cast.
The Design Centre was awarded Best Irish Label Offering, it is not hard to see why as The Design Centre offers a unique mix of the best of Irish designer labels including Philip Treacy, Caroline Kilkenny, Roisin Linnane and Catriona Hanly. For the contemporary woman who loves simplicity and elegance, the Design Centre is the go-to destination in Dublin for those covetable timeless classics. Find The Design Centre on the Top Floor of the Powerscourt Centre.
Atrium was awarded Best Customer Experience and Best Boutique Owners, Chupi Sweetman and Kate Nolan are very happy with Best Owners award but it’s the award for Best Customer Experience that they are really delighted with because they have an amazing team of women working in the store and this award means that all their hard work shows and is appreciated by you!
So come in and see why these boutiques stand out to the public as some of the best boutiques in the country.

Confetti Magazine checks out Dublin’s coolest place to get glam!
Confetti writes about our very own Chipped Nail Bar in their most recent issue – ”Unless you’ve been hanging out under a large rock, you’ll have heard about Dublin’s latest nail sensation, Chipped at Powerscourt Centre.
The ultra-modern salon features neon lights, USB charging points, laptops tables and the promise of cocktails while you beautify. Founder Roisin Lawless explains how it all came about ”I felt there was a lack of creativity in the nail sector and wanted to create a slick place to get your glam on, while still being able to use your laptop and your phone – not somewhere that rushed you in or out”.

French Connection’s Spring Summer ’18 collection encapsulates the sense of fun and colour associated with the warmer seasons. Femininity meets modernity, with playful peek-a-boo white shirting, ribbon-tied summer knitwear and ruffle trims, each bringing an unexpected feminine touch to a contemporary silhouette.
Print is embraced in many ways throughout the collection; from ditsy florals blended with lace to bountiful, water-coloured blooms painted across delicate chiffon. Find flowers intertwined within intricate lace fabrics in complementary tonal blues and reds.
With a colour palette that evokes the spirit of summer, red stands out as the kick off colour for the season, moving through to tonal inky blues and pops of water-colour blues hues as the months warm up. Summer white and warm coral take a new approach to occasion wear mid-season, while buttercup yellow and mustard dominate high summer.
